OUR HORSES

We're proud of the good natured and exceptional attitude of our horses.  Most are heavy-horse all-breed crosses, allowing for good bone, smooth gaits, and well muscled bodies.  Most were born and raised at the Ranch, and trained in all kinds of wilderness terrain.

Training takes time, is based on resistance free philosophies, where learning is base on trust and mutual respect.  Guests are encouraged to learn the "horse language" that comes in handy when communicating with your mount on the trails.

Almost all breeds are represented, with personalities as various as colours.  It's not unusual for a special bond to develop between horse and rider, as both travel together into the day and onto the trails.  We make a special effort to match each horse to rider skills, and enhance your riding skills, whether you have any or not, with lessons prior to every ride.  With practice, anyone can be a good rider!

Our horses have been raised and trained in the environment we explore.  They are familiar with situation crossings, varied terrain, and wild animal appearances.  They negotiate trail obstacles with intuition and experience.  But there is risk involved with every trail ride, and guests are expected to be informed of such and sign a guest waiver prior to the tour.  Risk is the essence of adventurous spirit, that unpredictability of the unknown that adds excitement and true adventure to wilderness experience.  Risk is part of your invitation to try your hand at learning new skills.

Horse and rider experience the known and unknown together, as a team.  This can be a very personal and empowering experience, beginning from age ten to adult.
